WHITE INK PRINTING | NYC
Publicide deploys white ink printing for a wide variety of products—foremost among them is printing on black paper; black business cards, black invitations, and black hangtags are just a few examples. White Ink also allows us to print on other paper colors, from dark to light. Check out samples below for navy blue paper, gray paper and even white printing on mirror reflective metallic paper. There are many types of paper that can be used with white print, as well as several types of white printing!
WHITE FOIL STAMPING
Our first and favorite white printing technique is White Foil Stamping. White Foil comes in a variety of finishes including metallic, matte pigment, and high gloss. All artworks require their own Print Design considerations for which foil stamp effect will work the best. Keep in mind, White Foil Printing uses a thick copper plate and presses into the paper so artwork will naturally have a debossed / letterpress print effect. It works great with thick papers, and heavy textures, and we love to give it a bump with an embossing plate too, to create a Raised Printing effect. White Foil is opaque also, so it usually covers over most background paper (and print) colors with a single pass – we also offer double hits of White Foil for those seeking ultimate opacity.
PANTONE WHITE INK | OFFSET PRINTING
Pantone Inks are can be used for offset printing. Pantone White Ink is a fairly transparent substance, so it is important to keep in mind that we will need at least 2x—and usually 3x or 4x hits of ink on top of each other to create enough opacity on dark papers. This adds expense and complexity to jobs with smaller quantities so is usually reserved for large print runs using multiple colors – in other words: commercial printing only! Silver and other Metallic Inks provide better opacity and more dramatic effects for printing on dark paper so, depending on artwork + run length we may suggest a switch!
WHITE LETTERPRESS PRINTING
Letterpress printing can utilize Pantone White Ink as well! The press registration system is well-suited to hitting the artwork multiple times. We recommend White Letterpress for customers seeking a low impact environmental printing and a krafty / recycled paper look! 4x hits of White Letterpress gives a grainy and natural look to typography and graphic work of many kinds. It is best suited to business cards, invitations and small-scale personal stationery projects. In addition to white ink effects, we often use Pantone White as an underlayer to create a backlit effect for other colors. Fluorescent Inks and other light/bright colors always benefit from an underlayer of white!
DIGITAL WHITE INK
Digital printing with white ink opens a world of possibilities, from variable data printing on dark colored papers, to full color prints with white ink underlayer effects. Publicide has the experience and know-how to get the best results from this printing medium. As with Pantone White, Digital White Ink prints best in multiple layers to increase opacity. Add to the white printing with CMYK and you can blow the doors off any custom printing project. Our favorite is 4x hits of white + CMYK on top, a total of 8x, hits of ink, and available at a fraction of the price point of similar results using offset printing. Digital White Printing also works great for printing on mirrored silver paper, matte metallic papers, in addition to blacks, grays and colors. Highly recommend for Corporate Business Cards, variable-data, and any other projects requiring full color print on dark papers.
WHITE INK PRINT PRICING + PRINT PRODUCTION NOTES
Pricing for white ink printing jobs is based on final quantity, paper type and the number of processes and machines that will be used in creating the order. Production time varies with order complexity and our seasonal workload but our elastic schedule allows for very fast rush prints when required, though rush charges apply. Turnaround time is calculated from the date of PDF proof approval. If your printing project has a hard due-date please let us know when making your request. Email us with your design file or specs to receive a custom quote for your project. All projects must have a custom quote number to proceed.

Some white ink print specs are available for rush printing service. To inquire about a rush job, please email artwork, print specifications and desired completion date ASAP to rush@publicide.com. If we’re able to accommodate your schedule we will reply with pricing and additional costs for the rush.
