OFFSET BUSINESS CARDS | NYC
Offset Business Cards are the printing industry standard for professional cards. Using the PMS / Pantone color system, we are able to produce thousands of different ink colors by mixing each color individually. Because offset ink is mixed from bright base colors, the range of values is huge! You can even leave the Pantone book behind and request a custom mix or color match that represents your brand values perfectly. Another benefit to offset printing is sharp type and fine linework at very small sizes, even hairline precision and tiny serifs on small-point type can be rendered successfully. Architects, designers and corporate creative agencies choose offset for its reliability, precision and color range. Commercial printing projects benefit from its built-in speed and cost efficiency at higher quantities—you’ll often find large corporations and foundations have chosen offset printed business cards for their budget friendly cost and for reliability.
INK COLOR OPTIONS
Speaking of color, since offset ink is transparent, colors can be mixed on the page as well as off. Duotones, gradients, overprinting, and color floods are all within the scope of offset printing. A duotone is the controlled combination of 2 PMS Ink colors, with different areas of a photo or graphic mixing at different densities to create depth and eye-catching and unique reproduction of your artwork. Using an arcane screening process to control the combination color densities across Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black ink, offset printing was the first commercial application of CMYK or Full Color Printing. These days Digital Printing has taken over much of yesterday’s CMYK print workload, which is great news since it liberates offset printing for graphic applications that have no substitute!
Offset Business Cards can print on smooth, textured, coated and uncoated papers up to 130# thickness—even thicker if we include duplexing to double thickness after printing. Unlike letterpress, foil stamping and embossing, the offset print process results in a smooth ink lay-down with no texture besides the paper. Paper types for offset go from heavily textured cotton, smooth uncoated / matte papers, all the way to coated gloss, silk and high-gloss papers. Printing floods of color is a great way to match background paper color if we aren’t able to find an exact match in a pre-made paper. We may recommend a varnish or laminate coating on flood coats to protect heavy ink and keep it from scuffing.
CUSTOM OFFSET PRINTING: METALLICS + FLUORESCENTS
Finally, the most custom and unique use for the offset press in business card printing is in printing metallic ink, fluorescent ink and pastel colors. Metallic inks, from the PMS 870’s print great on black and other dark colored papers, creating contrast and readability which is impossible with standard inks. Our black business cards can get pretty elaborate but even a single process, silver offset ink on black paper, looks very unique and will score a lot of attention to your card. Fluorescent Inks on bright white papers are similarly eye-popping! The PMS 800’s section has all the day-glo and neon ink colors available, plus we are happy to mix several together for a totally unique super fluorescent! We can even pass the print through the press multiple times to get maximum saturation for the brightest colors. And finally the lightest and most delicate colors, Pastels from the PMS 900 section. These colors print best on bright white papers so that nothing competes with their whisper of color across the page. Metallic and Fluorescent Inks are a great way to make your business card stand out from the competition.
PRICING + PRINT PRODUCTION NOTES
Pricing for offset business cards is based on quantity, paper type and the number of processes and machines that will be used in creating your order. More elaborate and custom print specs cost considerably more than standard orders, so it’s important to get your quote before proceeding. It’s worth mentioning that offset’s commercial printing origins have imparted a very high efficiency in pricing and speed. Once the basic press setup costs are covered, offset presses run at high speed with few materials needed to reach high quantities of prints. You’ll find it’s great for longer print runs and much higher printing speeds than digital printing so be sure to ask for additional quantities in your request to enjoy the savings that press efficiency can bring! Production time varies with order complexity and our seasonal workload but our elastic schedule allows for very fast rush prints when required, though rush charges apply. Turnaround time is calculated from the date of PDF proof approval. If your color printing project has a hard due-date please let us know when making your request. Email us with your design file or specs to receive a custom quote for your printing project. All projects must have a custom quote number to proceed.
Some offset business card print specs are available for rush printing service. To inquire about a rush offset business card job, please email artwork, print specifications and desired completion date ASAP to firstname.lastname@example.org. If we’re able to accommodate your schedule we will reply with pricing and additional costs for the rush. Offset rush printing is one of our specialties but please be aware that every moment counts in a rush print schedule. Some jobs will require additional shifts and weekend work to finish on time so the price can be significantly higher than jobs on a regular schedule.
