RECYCLED PAPER VS KRAFT PAPER
Kraft paper is usually brown or gray in color, and is made from industrial paper waste such as cardboard or paper-making castoffs. Fine recycled papers like Mohawk Options are made using 100% Post Consumer paper waste. Post Consumer means paper that has circulated out in the world—like used printer paper and materials you may have recycled yourself! Since true kraft board is an industrial product, there is usually less attention paid to color and consistency from one batch to the next. But to keep you looking good, many fine paper mills create a more reliable kraft product. Some favorites are Neenah Environment Grocer Kraft and French Paper’s Kraft-Tone line.
Recycled paper is much different than kraft paper. Most all papers today are made with some recycled content. Depending on the paper type, you can expect 10-30% recycled content in most papers. Publicide offers these levels, and up—all the way to 100% Post Consumer content, the highest recycled content available. Most 100PC papers contain small inclusions or specks against the background paper color. But some super-premium recycled printing papers are barely distinguishable from papers made with all new fibers.
SUSTAINABLE PAPER + GREEN PAPER MAKING
For sustainable and green printing projects, Publicide has you covered. We offer a full range from rough and rustic seed papers all the way through to recycled gloss coated papers. In addition to recycled papers, we offer many alternate-fiber papers such as Cotton, Sugarcane, Hemp, Straw, Bamboo, and more! We even work with some customers on upcycling papers that we have on hand from previous projects.
Beyond the recycled and alternate fiber content, a full look at green paper manufacturing also includes sustainably sourced energy used to create the paper. Mohawk Papers makes their papers with Wind Energy, whereas French Paper makes their lines using energy from the river running outside of their mill! At Publicide, Mohawk Paper is our home-state favorite. Their many recycled offerings, as well as use of Wind Energy and proximity to New York City make them our pick for most sustainable, green and local paper source!

HOW TO PRINT RECYCLED (KEEP IT GREEN!)
Recycled paper work great with any printing process—the print type depends on the artwork, print specifications and desired outcome for the project. Certain papers, like Seed Paper with it’s uneven texture, print best with the letterpress or foil stamp. More typical recycled papers work great with almost any print process. While books and brochures usually work best with digital or offset printing; stationery, business cards and hang tags can be printed with almost any specialty printing technique!
RECYCLED PAPER PRICING + PRINT PRODUCTION NOTES
Pricing for recycled paper projects is based on quantity, paper type and the number of processes and machines used to create the order. More elaborate and custom print specs cost considerably more than standard orders, so it’s important to get your quote before proceeding. Production time varies with order complexity and our seasonal workload but our elastic schedule allows for very fast rush prints when required, though rush charges apply. Turnaround time is calculated from the date of PDF proof approval. If your printing project has a hard due-date please let us know when making your request. Email us with your design file or specs to receive a custom quote for your printing project. All projects must have a custom quote number to proceed.
Some printing specs are available for rush printing service. To inquire about a rush job, please email artwork, print specifications and desired completion date ASAP to firstname.lastname@example.org. If we’re able to accommodate your schedule we will reply with pricing and additional costs for the rush. Some jobs will require additional shifts and weekend work to finish on time so the price can be significantly higher than jobs on a regular schedule.
