Embossing  |  Engraving  |  Thermography

Raised printing takes many forms. The objective is to create a textured feel to printing – logos, lettering, design elements – and give them an almost 3-dimensional effect. Embossing, thermography, and engraving are all possibilities to achieve the pushed-up effect of raised printing. Debossing, if applied specifically, can create a raised-ink or raised-printing effect in the sense of a negative relief. Engraving, similarly, creates a raised printing, pushed-up, textured typography feel.

Most applications of raised printing on paper have a mirror-reverse effect on the back of the paper. This means that the raised, pushed-up texture of a technique like an emboss appears as a pushed-in, indented texture on the opposite side of the paper. This reverse effect of the raised ink printing can be incorporated to be an intentional raised-up / pushed-in design feature that works on both sides of the paper. Or if the reverse effect of the pushed-in printing is undesirable, it can be masked over with an additional layer of paper such that only the raised printing element is visible. The benefit of raised ink printing is immediately apparent as soon as it’s felt on any variety of printed material – business cardswedding invitations, announcements, and stationery – the raised, pushed-up texture is highly tactile and visually dimensional. New York City loves raised printing.

Pricing for raised printing is based on quantity, paper type and the number of processes and machines that will be used in creating the order. More elaborate and custom print specs cost considerably more than standard orders, so it’s important to get a quote before proceeding. Production time varies with order complexity and our seasonal workload but our elastic schedule allows for very fast rush prints when required, though rush charges apply. Turnaround time is calculated from the date of PDF proof approval. If your print job has a hard due-date please let us know when making your request. Email us with your design file or specs to receive a custom quote. All projects must have a custom quote number to proceed. We offer scheduled meetings at our NYC Print Shop but prefer to send preliminary pricing before scheduling so that we can all start off on the same page.

Some raised ink specs are available for rush printing service. To inquire about a rush job, please email artwork, print specifications and desired completion date ASAP to rush@publicide.com. If we’re able to accommodate your schedule we will reply with pricing and additional costs for the rush. Rush printing is one of our specialties but please be aware that every moment counts in a rush print schedule. Some jobs will require additional shifts and weekend work to finish on time so the price can be significantly higher than jobs on a regular schedule.
